Among environmental projects we have handled are:

  • Developed an awareness campaign, including media relations, community outreach, communications training, message development, website and other services related to the LaFarge-Blue Circle Cement merger and introduction of a state-mandated environmental performance plan.
  • Created a special Risk Management Program (RMP) for six regional chemical companies (GE Plastics, BASF, Surpass Chemicals, Nycomed Amersham, GE Power Systems, Schenectady International) in advance of a new EPA ruling on reporting procedures. See case study.
  • Developed and implemented community and media relations plan for GE Power Systems as they began brownfields clean-up programs on its main plant site in the City of Schenectady.
  • Developed and implemented a community and media relations plan for the City of Schenectady as it undertook a Phase II brownfields clean-up and redevelopment project under U.S. EPA's pilot project for urban brownfields redevelopment.
  • Developed and implemented a community relations and public affairs plan for Nepera, Inc., an Orange County, NY-based chemical manufacturer, seeking renewed local and state permits during a time of public confidence issues. Provided crisis management counsel and on-site support during several industrial accidents at the facility.
  • Provided communications counsel, media relations, community support and issues monitoring for GM's Central Foundry Division, related to a Superfund site in Massena, N.Y. involving PCBs and the St. Lawrence River.
  • Provided public affairs counsel for a hazardous dump site remediation project for Sterling Organics, Rensselaer, N.Y. We have coordinated communications and local government contact; worked with state and local governments, e.g., NYS DEC; arranged a press briefing with DEC Commissioner Thomas Jorling in which he praised Sterling Drug and characterized the company as a good corporate citizen for the way it handled the remediation; monitor media and local reaction; and maintained contact with Sterling corporate communications about the situation.
  • Provided public relations counsel, including the development of a community awareness plan, for an Ogdensburg, N.Y. manufacturer of magnetic ferrite powders related to its consent order with the New York State Attorney General and subsequent environmental clean-up activities.
  • Provided crisis communications counsel, media relations andᅠ employee and community awareness efforts concerning asbestos use in manufacturing for Allied-Signal's Friction Materials facility in Green Island, N.Y. Also for Allied-Signal, media and political monitoring, and communications counsel related to remediation of Onondaga Lake.
  • Developed a community awareness plan, resulting from a consent order from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, and other public relations counsel for a large, Dallas-based company with a lead refining operation in Orange County, N.Y.
  • Provided media relations, government relations and internal corporation communications counsel for the Owens-Corning facility in Delmar, N.Y. that was under a consent order from NYS DEC concerning reporting procedures for chemical use.
  • Organized a response to the NYS Attorney General about concerns over the recyclability of aseptic packaging containers (juice boxes), and creating in the Albany city schools a pilot program to recycle the containers, on behalf of the Aseptic Packaging Council and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
  • Provided a variety of SARA Title III communications programs including Community Right-to-Know briefings and materials for GE Plastics in Selkirk, N.Y. Also, arranging joint projects between GE Selkirk and the Audobon Society of New York State.
  • Provided media relations consultation, community and local government consultation and issues development for Ogden Projects Inc. concerning a waste-to-energy facility at the Port of Albany.
  • Conducted media training on environmental issues for site managers, and other communications consultation, for Montreal-based St. Lawrence Cement (Independent Cement Corp. in the U.S.).
  • Helped to promote recycling, forest management and other issues for the American Forest & Paper Association and its New York members (International Paper, Champion, Georgia-Pacific, etc.), including coalition-building and joint message development with the Nature Conservancy and the Empire State Forest Products Association.
